Privacy Policy
Last updated: 24 October 2026
In short: we collect only what we need to run the app: your name and email for your account, a record of which charts you open, and things you create in the app, such as sets, your own chord changes and notes, and corrections you send us. We don't sell your data, show ads or track you across other apps or websites. You can ask us to delete your account at any time.
Who we are
Bollywood Music Chords ("we", "us") is run by Sagar Jilka in the United Kingdom. We are responsible (the "controller") for the personal information described in this policy. Contact us at sagarjilka@gmail.com.
This policy covers the Bollywood Music Chords mobile app (on iPhone, iPad and Android, including test versions shared through TestFlight and Google Play testing) and the website at bollywoodmusicchords.com.
What we collect
| Information | Why we use it |
|---|---|
| Account details: your name, email address and a securely stored (hashed) password or invite code. | To create your account, sign you in and contact you about the app, for example pilot updates or a problem with your account. |
| Activity in the app: when you sign in and which chord charts you open. | To understand which songs pilot users use and what to improve, and to protect our charts from copying. |
| Things you create: charts you write or import on the My charts pages (including any PDF you upload to start one), your sets, your own versions of charts (chord changes and notes you add to bars), and chord corrections you suggest to us. | To save them to your account so they appear on all your devices. Your own charts, versions and notes are private to you, except that players in a band session you run can see the charts in that session's set. We don't keep PDFs you upload to start a chart; we read the chords from them and discard the file. When you suggest a correction, our chords team sees it with your name so they can check it; if we accept it, the corrected chart is shown to everyone, without your name. |
| Band sessions: the session code, the set being played and where the band is in it. | To keep everyone's chart in step. Players in a session can see the name of the person running it. |
| How you use the app: which screens you open and actions such as opening a chart, changing key, searching, or running a band session, linked to your account ID (not your name or email). We don't record your screen. | To understand what's useful, find problems and improve the app. |
| Crash and error reports: what went wrong, your device type and app version, and your account ID. | To find and fix bugs quickly. |
| Technical information: your device's IP address, app version and the time of each request, recorded automatically by our servers. | To keep the service running and secure, and to fix problems. |
| Messages you send us, such as feedback or support emails, and feedback you send through TestFlight or Google Play. | To reply to you and improve the app. |
Your name may appear as a faint watermark on charts while you view them. This discourages copying and is visible only on your screen.
We do not collect your location, contacts, photos, microphone or camera data, and we do not use advertising or cross-app tracking tools.
Screenshot protection
To protect our charts, the app may block or detect screenshots and screen recordings while a chart is open. This happens on your device. No screenshot or recording is sent to us.
Our legal basis
Under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR), we use your information:
- to provide the service you signed up for (contract);
- to keep the service secure, protect our content and improve the app (legitimate interests, balanced against your rights);
- where the law requires us to keep or share information (legal obligation).
Who we share it with
We never sell your information. We share it only with companies that help us run the service, and only as far as they need to do their job:
- Render: hosts our app server.
- Neon: hosts our database.
- GitHub: hosts this website.
- Cloudflare: stores the PDF chord sheets our charts are made from.
- PostHog (EU servers): app usage analytics.
- Sentry: crash and error reports.
- Resend: sends account emails, such as sign-up and password-reset codes.
- Apple and Google: deliver the app and test versions to you. Their own privacy policies cover what they collect when you use the App Store, TestFlight or Google Play.
We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect our rights, our users or the public.
International transfers
Some of our providers store or process data outside the UK, for example in the United States or the European Union. When they do, we rely on safeguards recognised under UK law, such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or adequacy regulations.
How long we keep it
- Account details: while your account is open. When you delete your account, or once the pilot ends and you don't continue, we delete them within 90 days.
- Activity in the app: up to 12 months, then deleted or made anonymous.
- Your own charts, sets and versions of charts: while your account is open; deleted with your account, or straight away when you delete them.
- Chord corrections you suggest: kept as a record of changes to our charts, but no longer linked to you once your account is deleted.
- Band sessions: they stop working after 24 hours without activity, and are deleted with the account of the person who ran them.
- Server logs: up to 30 days.
- App usage analytics: up to 12 months. Crash and error reports: up to 90 days.
- Emails and feedback: as long as needed to deal with them, and no longer than 2 years.
Your rights
You can ask us to see, correct, delete or download your information, or object to or limit how we use it. Email sagarjilka@gmail.com and we'll reply within one month. To delete your account, see Delete your account.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk. We'd appreciate the chance to put it right first.
Children
The app is not meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information. If you think a child under 13 has given us information, contact us and we'll delete it.
Security
Information sent between the app and our servers is encrypted (HTTPS). Passwords are stored only in hashed form, and access to our systems is limited to the people who need it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change matters to how we use your information, we'll tell you in the app or by email.
